Insects and more

Insect breeding

Insect breeding is an essential part of our BioGenius family. When breeding various species, we always ensure the highest quality and an up-to-date and modern stock. Our insect breeding is integrated into biological product testing and thus provides the basis for carrying out efficacy tests.

Based on the damage caused, we categorise our insects into four groups:

Hygiene Pests

Hygienic pests (also health pests) are divided into temporarily sucking insects such as mosquitoes, flies, horseflies, etc. and ectoparasites such as lice, fleas and bed bugs. They are capable of transmitting pathogens through bites or stings or can trigger allergies through food contamination via excretions.

Further hygiene pests are Ectoparasites, like lice, fleas or ticks. They arespecies that feed on skin substances, blood or tissue fluid and can thus be carriers of dangerous diseases.

Material Pests

Material pests are primarily insects and/or their larvae that can damage materials of animal and plant origin. They infest products such as furs, carpets, wool, books, etc.. Even in small numbers of individuals, they can cause considerable and above all economic damage.

Stored Product Pests

Storage pests are animal species that infest food, luxury food or animal feed during storage or transport. They play a major role, for example, in food storage and in food processing plants. They not only cause considerable feeding damage, but they can also reduce the quality of food, luxury food and animal feed and make it unusable for human and animal consumption.

Nuisance Arthropods

Nuisance insects do not cause any direct damage but are often perceived as a nuisance or annoyance simply by their presence. They can affect human well-being as well as arouse disgust when they appear en masse.
